“How much better can I show my love for you?” I engraved these lyrics by Yebba into a Plexiglas ruler so I could hold them in my hands.
Songs play an intimate role in shaping who we are, and perhaps especially in the construction of queer identities. In this sense, the lyrics we keep close to us can act as points of reference, responding to a need to turn towards words or narratives that may be absent from our immediate surroundings. Conceived by Céline Groman in collaboration with the collective DykeFag4FagDyke, this workshop extends the ways in which we usually appropriate song lyrics by giving them material form and bringing them into a shared space.
Read me a song, sing me a poem invites participants to gather song lyrics that are meaningful to them, copy them out, and then break them apart in order to compose their own poems. After a moment of sharing, all the lyrics are pooled together to create new poems collectively. By rewriting and rearranging them, the aim is no longer simply to borrow words, but to turn them into material for poetic creation.
By bringing together the lyrics contributed by each participant, the workshop also seeks to open up a space for affective circulation. Lyrics that participants associate with the construction of queer identities are shared, creating an intimate space for dyke-fag encounters and connection.
At the end of the workshop, the resulting works are compiled into a zine that can be freely downloaded and printed, extending this shared space through an editorial form.

DykeFag4FagDyke
DykeFag 4 FagDyke is an editorial collective exploring the relations between dyke and fag cultures through writing, translation, and publishing. Founded around a self-published risograph fanzine combining photographs and letters, it is now developing an ongoing editorial project with a forthcoming publication. In parallel, the collective organises writing and translation workshops based on collective practices and shared reading. Its work seeks to bring narratives, archives, and contemporary experiences into dialogue, renewing their modes of transmission.
