Founded in 2022 by Clément Morlé, illustrator, Clémentine Taupin, painter and illustrator, and Antoine Graff, graphic designer and publisher, the DdD Collective (la Dizaine des Dessinateurices) develops projects that foster encounters between artists and illustrators from the emerging French-speaking art scene. An annual collective publication dedicated to drawing, Cristal Liquide invites contributors to create a short illustrated story. Since its second issue, published in 2024, the journal has been structured around a specific artistic direction, conceived as a guiding thread to bring together and confront emerging drawing practices. Following “chromatically saturated” drawing in the second issue, and practices situated between “surface and volume” in the third, this fourth edition, presented at Bétonsalon, explores the legacy of alternative comics from the 1990s through an entirely monochromatic approach, in black and white. With this new issue, Cristal Liquide opens up to other techniques and artistic fields, bringing different approaches to drawing, storytelling and image-making into dialogue.
DdD Collective
The DdD Collective (la Dizaine des Dessinateurices) was founded in 2022 by Clément Morlé, illustrator, Clémentine Taupin, painter and draftsman, and Antoine Graff, graphic designer and publisher. Driven by a desire to create connections between the drawing artists of their generation, the collective invites new artists from across the French-speaking world to take part in each of its projects. The choice to publish books stems from the format’s openness and permeability, making it possible to collaborate with artists active across various drawing scenes, including comics, contemporary drawing and fanzine culture. Inspired by projects such as the journal Lagon, Landfill Mouldmap and Hôpital Brut, the journal published by Dernier Cri, the DdD Collective seeks to bring together diverse forms of drawing, from the most expansive to the most concise.
Cristal Liquide received support from Université Côte d’Azur through its Emerging Creation Support Programme, as well as from Bétonsalon for the organization of this launch.
