Traveling Companions
Intergenerational sound walk
"Take a walk at night. Walk so silently that the bottoms of your feet become ears" - these are the words with which composer Pauline Oliveros guides us through one of her Sonic Meditations. And so, blindfolded, we’ll be strolling the nearby streets, listening for the slightest noise! A passer-by whistling, the siren of a boat in the far distance on the Seine, the breath of the wind on top of the buildings... so many sounds that we will collect and put into shapes, textures and colors to create a sound map of the neighborhood.
Wednesday, October 11, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm
Ghostdance
Family workshop, ages 6 and up
By creating beds specially designed for resting (and napping!) in the exhibition, artist Konstantinos Kyriakopoulos invites us to reflect on our relationship with sleep. Are we good sleepers, bad dreamers or sleepwalkers? After a time of sharing about our relationship with the dark night, let’s create the nightlight of our dreams. The one that can make happy ghosts dance and keep bad ones away!
Wednesday, October 25, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm
Lullaby for Daisy Pauline
Lullaby-visit, ages 0 to 3
Sometimes sung, sometimes whispered, sometimes even with their mouths closed, lullabies are the rhythm of a newborn baby’s day. In this lullaby-tour of the exhibition - for some snuggled up in your arms - you’ll discover the sound universe of Pauline Oliveros. Composed for her niece, the piece Lullaby for Daisy Pauline invites us to experience the oscillations and vibrations of the vocal cords like caresses. A time for parents and children to listen and hear skin-to-skin, letting themselves be carried along by the swaying of their bodies.
Wednesday, November 8, from 2.30 to 4.30 pm
In the Houses of My Families
Family workshop, ages 6 and up
The tick-tock of the alarm clock, the dring of the microwave, the plouc-plouc of the sink, the frrrcht-frrrcht of the pillow, the bing-bang of the saucepan... What sounds resonate in our homes? What music plays in our daily lives? Using all kinds of objects collected in our kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, let’s become real musicians like Pauline Oliveros! Rubbing, tapping, blowing, pinching, scratching: let’s make all these objects vibrate and sound together until they become the instruments of a domestic orchestra!
