Thursday, 16 May, from 7 pm to 8 pm: Nyumbani Book Club: book club around African and diasporic feminist writing proposed by Ramata N’Diaye
The Nyumbani Book Club – “to be home” in Kiswahili – is an association for scientific and cultural mediation which develops artistic projects dedicated to the joining of the social sciences and the arts, from and about the Africas as well as their diasporas. Its events broach political, feminist and migrant perspectives. The chosen theme for the 2024 season is exile.
After embarking for Senegal and Somalia on our last meetings, we are leaving the continent to drop off our luggage in Haiti. On the agenda, a discussion around the book Le Testament des solitudes by Haitian author Emmelie Prophète. It will be an opportunity to discuss Haiti’s history, the American dream, genealogy and the memory of women. RSVP here!
The book club aims to promote the diffusion of voices and world views of African and diasporic voices. It is open to all, whether you finished reading the book or not.
The Nyumbani Book Club newsletter: Many things happen on the newsletter (first-hand information on African authors, upcoming events, book, film, podcast, exhibition recommendations etc.).
